Cette conférence, organisée par le GIS Climat-Environnement-Société, a pour objectif de discuter des besoins en recherche dans le domaine « changement climatique/qualité de l’air/santé », avec un accent sur la problématique qualité de l’air. Les échanges pourraient aboutir au montage d’un projet de recherche.
Patrick Kinney, professeur à la Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health et directeur du programme « climat et santé », interviendra sur la problématique de l’évaluation des impacts sanitaires globaux dans le contexte du changement climatique.

Abstract
Climate variability and change can affect human health in many ways, including extreme heat and storm events, air pollution, water supply and quality, and changing patterns of vector borne diseases. Air pollution is particularly relevant because it is both affected by and affects climate. Substantial gains in global health may be achievable with well-planned strategies to mitigate climate impacts while also reducing health impacts of air pollution. To better understand the future potential of such strategies, models are needed that can examine health impacts of air pollution under alternative assumptions about future emissions and climate. This talk will discuss the challenges of global health impacts assessment for air pollution and will describe efforts currently underway to improve available methods, including the WHO comparative risk assessment of outdoor air quality, the global energy assessment, and others. Implications for climate impacts modeling work will be highlighted.
